Over the past few weeks we've received an increase in ‘break ins’ in the Huntington area. Enquiries are still ongoing to try identify those involved and Local PCSO is conducting regular patrols to offer reassurance. Here's some basic hints/tips to keep your property safe.
Burglars don’t want to be seen or heard and if they think they’ll be noticed by a neighbour or passer-by, they’ll probably move on. I've produced some basic tips to help keep your property safe.
Security Light – Install an outside security light so that intruders can’t approach without being seen. Lighting is a good deterrent and is recommended at doors as it makes it safe for you when coming and going after dark. Take care to position lights so that it doesn’t annoy your neighbours. Gravel driveway/path – This will help you to hear anyone approaching and make it harder for burglars to go undetected. Secure your shed – Always keep your shed locked and secured. Often sheds contain valuables such as power tools, bikes, garden tools. CCTV/Alarm system – Install if possible, to protect your property and your family. Secure side gate – Keep side gates locked. Open gates mean burglars can easily access your home without being seen. Property boundaries – Add lightweight trellis to gates and fences and plant some prickly plants to make it harder for burglars to climb over.
If you’re going away, ask a neighbour or someone you trust to keep an eye on your property.
Contact your local neighbourhood policing team if you have any concerns or questions. | ||
